Richard Weese, president of Deck Renewal Systems (DRS), started the business in 1993. Rich had been in the paint and stain industry for 10 years prior. Throughout his career he noticed a growing trend of wood decks and fences and realized that there was a strong market to clean and seal exterior wood on a consistent basis.

Rich began DRS as a home-based business while he continued his employment in the coatings industry. He took time to research the various stains on the market in order to determine how they would hold up on wood surfaces as they were exposed to various climates. Rich placed an advertisement in the local newspaper and the calls started to flow in. DRS of Dayton, Ohio, now employs three full-time crews and one part-time crew. The rapid growth has transformed DRS from a home-based business into a 3,000-square-foot facility that allows for precise marketing and continued focus.

DRS moved into the Cincinnati, Ohio market in 1999 when Rich's long-time friend, Greg Peters, decided he wanted to give the deck restoration business a try. Greg's background was in marketing where he excelled in the advertising arena for 10 years. DRS of Cincinnati now enjoys the same customer focus and growth that the Dayton branch has for the last 14 years.

DRS now uses a private label sealer that was developed specifically for DRS and has greatly increased our name awareness and profitability. Our name is also proudly displayed on our line of cleaning and stripping products that are biodegradable and environmentally safe.
